Examination procedure
The correct procedure for examinations is regulated in §11 of the statutes of the University of Vienna. In summary, the following points must be observed in particular:
- Only students who are duly registered may take part in examinations. No examinations / courses may be taken during a leave of absence.
- Students are obliged to identify themselves to the examiner with their student ID (or an official photo ID).
- In the case of written examinations, students must be allocated suitable workstations to ensure that the examination can be conducted in an orderly, undisturbed and expedient manner.
- A competent examination supervisor must be present.
- Examiners must announce which aids may be used. Students who use unauthorised aids during the examination will not be assessed; the examination attempt will be documented separately ("X") in the collective certificate and counted towards the permitted number of attempts.
- Oral examinations are held in public. Examiners or chairpersons of an examination board can restrict access to a number of people that corresponds to the spatial conditions. Students have the right to take the oral examination in the presence of a counsellor.
- Examiners have a duty to conduct the examination in a fair manner and to refrain from doing anything that could discredit students or violate their personal dignity.
- Examiners are obliged to keep a record of the examination. Upon request, students who have successfully completed a defensive or comprehensive examination must be issued with a certificate of completion, which is valid for six weeks from the date of issue.
