Digital Examinations

Announcement of the digital exam in u:find

The digital exam is announced in the course catalogue (u:find). Lecturers are required to indicate the examination material, the duration and time as well as the mode of submission, the type of performance assessment, the permitted aids, the minimum requirements and the assessment standard in u:find.

If announcements that have already been made are changed due to the current situation, the information in u:find should be supplemented with the new examination modes and under no circumstances should the previous announcements be deleted. By registering for a digital examination, students agree to the examination mode announced in good time (at least 14 days before the examination date).

A second, third or forth examination date, which must be taken online, may differ formally from the previous date or dates, e.g. because the first date also contained open questions in the test, which are replaced by MC examinations in the subsequent online examination dates for reasons of practicality. This must be communicated transparently in u:find (and possibly on Moodle).

Registration and deregistration

Registration and deregistration for examinations is carried out via u:space as in normal operation. Only correctly registered students may take the exam. Students who have not registered correctly may not take the examination. Students who do not deregister from an examination on time will be blocked from the next examination date.

Registration count

By registering for a digital examination, students agree to the examination mode. The number of times they take an examination is added to the total number of times they take this examination.

Board examinations

The formal procedure of a board examination does not change compared to an on-site examination. If the examination takes place digitally orally, all examiners are connected to the examination. If the examination takes place digitally in writing, the test is assessed by all committee members.

Identification

  • Digital oral examinations: Students have to identify you with a photo ID via video chat.
  • Digital written examinations: Digital written examinations must be conducted exclusively via Moodle. Students must log in with their u:account to confirm their identity. Additional identification methods are not provided.

Exam cancellation

If the examination is cancelled without stating an important reason or, in the case of a digital written examination, is not uploaded to Moodle within the specified period, the examination will be graded as "fail". In the event of technical problems, students must contact the course management or the examination supervisor immediately.

Examination invigilator

In the case of digital written examinations, at least one competent person will be announced (cover sheet of the examination) who can be contacted digitally immediately before, during and after the examination and who is available to answer questions about the examination and (technical) problems. In the event of technical problems, you can also contact the ZID helpdesk.

Exam inspection

It is also possible to view examinations during online examinations. Students should contact their examiner for this. If no joint solution can be found, students should contact their SSC by email (stating which exam it is).

Copies of the assessment documents and any further explanations can be sent by email. It is also possible to bring students and teachers together in a video conference tool and share the previously scanned assessment documents. Multiple choice examinations are excluded from the right of reproduction; when sending them, care must be taken to ensure that the documents can be easily distributed.

Cheating (use of unauthorised aids)

  • Oral examinations: Students are authorised to take a person of trust with them to the examination. The person of trust on the student side should sit behind the candidate in the field of vision of the camera and the examiner. The examiner may request that the room with the camera be swivelled out if there is cause for suspicion. If there is a suspicion that unauthorised aids are being used, the examiner will terminate the examination.

  • Written examinations: By participating in the digital written examination, students declare that they will take the examination independently, without the help of third parties and without unauthorised aids. The examination may be subject to a plagiarism check (Turnitin). Within the assessment period of four weeks, the examiner may also make oral enquiries about the subject matter of the examination. This can also be done on a random basis and without concrete suspicion of cheating.
  • Consequences of cheating: If unauthorised aids are used and/or the examination is not completed independently, the examination will not be assessed and will be documented with an X in the collective certificate. The examination attempt will be counted towards the permitted number of attempts. The incident/procedure must be clearly and comprehensibly documented by the course director.
