Bachelor's and Master's teacher training programmes
On 1 October 2014, four-year Bachelor's teacher training programmes came into force at the University of Vienna, followed by two-year Master's teacher training programmes on 1 October 2015. This also completed the switch to the Bologna architecture for teacher training programmes.
The foundation stone for the new secondary school teacher training programme for the Vienna/Lower Austria region was laid in 2016 with the establishment of the North-East Network.
Since the 2016/17 academic year, the secondary general education teacher training programme has offered a standardised academic education for teachers at compulsory general schools (APS), general secondary schools (AHS), vocational secondary schools (BMHS) and general special schools (ASO).
It is divided into a four-year Bachelor's degree programme and a two-year Master's degree programme.
